Bette Midler Tribute
BETTE MIDLER TRIBUTE
Kathy will dazzle you as everyone’s favorite Diva-Superstar Bette Midler! Paying tribute to songs like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Wind Beneath My Wings, Stuff Like That There, I’m Beautiful, The Rose, You Don’t Own Me, Under the Boardwalk, all with an acute, eclectic, outrageous sense of humor. Of course, it’s all extremely, fabulous and hip
Since 1995, Kathy has delighted in portraying Bette Midler – both the look AND the voice. She has cavorted as the Divine Diva in Branson, Cancun, Myrtle Beach, San Francisco, Bally’s and Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City Millenium New Years, Japan, Berlin, Cologne, Mystic Lakes Minnesota, Basel-Switzerland, Utah, Las Vegas, The Caribbean, Florida, Mall of America, Banff-Alberta, Toronto, Stage West Dinner Theatre, Woody’s, ‘The Docks’, Cedar’s, Cruise Line and Barrymore’s “Luv Ball” in Ottawa, and her one-woman Tribute to Bette Show in Hartford, Connecticut.
“Kathy Thompson’s portrayal of Bette Midler ranks among the best celebrity impersonations the local “Legends” franchise has ever offered. Thompson’s physical resemblance to Midler is striking: She has the same toothy grin, blonde locks and zaftig build as her subject. And she ably captures Midler’s body language. Her right-on-target vocal impression enhances the illusion it’s actually Midler on the Palace Theater stage as she offers such signatures as “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B”, “I’m Beautiful” and a “The Rose” / “Wind Beneath My Wings” medley.” TGIF DAILY RECORD, NEW JERSEY
Performing first at age 16, Kathy has been a busy professional singer, getting her roots as a Voice Major at Humber College in Toronto, Canada and studying with a variety of private voice teachers. She was posted in Ottawa where, after Basic Training, she was the vocalist for the Royal Canadian Air Force 55-piece Central Band (Rank: Sergeant) for 3 years, where she was also a staff copyist/calligrapher. She was a founding member of The Singers Guild of Toronto and was elected to the Board of Directors, Toronto Musicians’ Association / American Federation of Musicians for a two year term where she was also active on the Public Relations Committee to support the art of live music. All the while, she has done film work like standing in for Debbie Reynolds…there have been commercial jingles, many for Irwin Toys as the voice of a little girl. She studied animation voice acting in Los Angeles and Toronto, and jazz dance as well as Comedy Improv at Second City and Theatresports Toronto, Level V. Kathy was a singing host at Mark Breslin venue “Sing Sing”; and Mark is the owner of Yuk Yuk’s chain of stand-up comedy clubs.
Kathy composed, published and distributed 3 independent recordings on CD, which still receive Canadian airplay, most notably her Christmas favorite “The Gift of Love”. She won a Scarborough Arts Council Award for one of her original country songs. She was featured singing the music of Harry James in the Toronto Jazz Festival, Canada Day ’99, and performed the principal role of the groom’s mother for 7 years in the hilarious show called “Joey & Gina’s Comedy Wedding” as the tipsy “Hot Mama” Giovanna Prosciutto.
